Life Certificate: Pensioners are required to submit a life certificate every year. If this certificate is not submitted within the stipulated time, their pension may be stopped from the following month.
Life Certificate: There are many pensioners in the country. Every year, millions of pensioners have to complete this important task on time, otherwise their pension may be stopped. This is not just a formality but a necessary process that the government has initiated to maintain transparency. The government wants to ensure that pension funds reach only the rightful beneficiaries and that no fraudulent claimants can exploit the system.
This is why every government bank or EPFO pensioner is required to submit a life certificate every year. This certificate is the most important condition for pension continuation. The month of November is considered crucial for this process, as pensioners across the country submit their life certificates during this time. If this certificate is not submitted by the stipulated time, i.e., November 30th, their pension will automatically be stopped from December.
Why is a life certificate necessary?
Life certificates are the government's way of bringing transparency to the pension system. Its purpose is to ensure that pension funds are credited to the correct account and not transferred to a deceased person or a fake account. This certificate is required to be submitted annually to verify that the pensioner is alive and their account is active.
Previously, this process involved visiting a bank or post office, where the elderly had to wait in long queues. However, under Digital India, it has been simplified. Pensioners can submit the certificate from the comfort of their homes through the Jeevan Pramaan portal or the Jeevan Pramaan app. All that is required is their Aadhaar number, mobile number, and biometric device.
How to submit a life certificate?
There are several ways to submit a life certificate, making it easy for pensioners of all ages and backgrounds. Pensioners can submit the certificate offline by visiting the nearest bank branch, post office, or Common Service Center. Those who prefer to opt for the digital process can download the Jeevan Pramaan app and submit the certificate from home. For this, they will need their Aadhaar card, mobile number, and biometric device.
After submitting the certificate through the app, they receive a digital receipt number, which must be preserved for future reference. Pensioners who do not use smartphones can also visit their nearest CSC center to complete this process. The government has also directed banks and post offices to set up special counters for the convenience of the elderly. If this certificate is not submitted by November 30th, their December pension may be withheld.
