The choice filling date for NEET PG 2025 counseling has been extended after the NBE withdrew 169 DNB seats. The MCC will soon release the revised seat matrix and new schedule.
Another major update has arrived for medical students regarding the National Eligibility Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 counseling. The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) has extended the deadline for choice filling for the first round. This is due to information received from the National Medical Commission (NMC) stating that the National Board of Examinations (NBE) withdrew 169 PG DNB seats after counseling began. Students will now have to wait for the next official announcement from the MCC.
The MCC stated that some additional seats have been removed from the counseling process, and the roster system is being reinstated to ensure fair seat distribution in accordance with the reservation policy. Consequently, a revised seat matrix is being prepared, which will soon be uploaded on the MCC's official website, mcc.nic.in.
Corresponding changes will also be made to the state-level PG counseling programs. This means that a new distribution of MD, MS, and DNB seats will be released in all states, and students may have the opportunity to re-select their preferred colleges.
What Changes in Seats?
According to the notice issued, several significant changes have been made to the first phase of the seat matrix. This revision withdraws 49 MD and MS seats and 54 DNB seats. However, a welcome relief is that 6 new seats from private hospitals have been added. The previously released seat matrix contained a total of 25,760 seats, but this number has now decreased slightly.
Seats according to the new distribution
All India Quota (AIQ) – 12,678 seats
Central Internal Quota – 804 seats
Deemed University Category – 6,156 seats
DNB Category – 9,122 seats
What was decided in the old schedule?
According to the old schedule, the first round of seat allocation results was to be released on November 8, 2025. Students were to complete the reporting and joining process at their allotted college between November 9 and November 14, 2025. However, all these dates are now likely to change.
