People have been left in awe after getting a glimpse of what it's like travelling on the most famous train in the world, where tickets start at £3,000 per person.
Murder on the Orient Express is a 1934 detective novel by Agatha Christie about a murder that occurs on a snow-bound luxury train, which the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot must solve. The book has been adapted several times, most recently inthe 2017 film starring Dame Judi Dench and Johnny Depp. But did you know the story is named after a real train?
The Orient Express was a historic luxury passenger train service that ran from 1883 until 2009. Today, the name and concept are revived by several luxury train services and hotels, including the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, which offers journeys across Europe.
James, a holidaymaker who documents his travels on TikTok, is one of the many passengers who has recently enjoyed the revived Orient Express, and he shared his experience with his followers.
"All aboard the luxurious Venice Simplon - Orient Express," James wrote at the start of the video before moving on to show clips from the train ride.
The entrance to each train carriage rolled out on the platform. Once inside, private cabins come with a neatly-made bed, some fresh slippers and towels, along with a teddy bear dressed as a train conductor. The bed can also be folded up into sofas when not in use.
As the tickets often come with food and drinks included, it's no surprise that the train also has a dining car and bar. Of course, the tables in the dining car are covered in white table cloths and shining silverware.
In the clip, velvet sofas can be seen in one carriage along with a grand piano which is played live as passengers socialise with one another.
The tourist explained in the caption of the post: "One of the most famous trains in the world, travelling between Venice and Paris on a small selection of dates each year."
The Venice to Paris journey is an overnight journey, which lets passengers enjoy a night away on the train before reaching their destination the following day.
So how much can you expect to pay for a journey in this iconic train? When one of the thousands of viewers asked in the comment section, James went on to reveal: "It is a real luxury train experience, so cabin prices start from £3.5k per person with meals/drinks included."
However, the price didn't stop people from dreaming about taking a journey on their own, as another person said: "Taking a trip on an orient express train is on my bucket list!!"
"Blessed to say I've done it twice - amazing," a second viewer said, while someone else shared: "My honeymoon 3 years ago best ever."
A fourth person said: "I love these old trains and single carriages .it's something I hope will never die out !"
