Saquon Barkley injury update: Eagles RB dealing with knee soreness as status for Giants game remains uncertain

Send Push
The Philadelphia Eagles are monitoring a new concern surrounding star running back Saquon Barkley , who appeared on the team’s Oct. 6 injury report with a knee issue. Although the report was only an estimation, as the Eagles did not hold a full practice, it raised questions about Barkley’s status ahead of the highly anticipated matchup against his former team, the New York Giants , on Oct. 9 at MetLife Stadium.

Eagles optimistic but cautious with Saquon Barkley’s knee soreness
According to NFL Network , Saquon Barkley is dealing with “general soreness” following the Eagles’ 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos , a game in which the offense collapsed late after blowing a two-touchdown lead. The report also indicated that Barkley “fully expects to play” against the Giants, easing some initial fan concern.

Despite finishing the game, Barkley’s usage was noticeably limited. He played a season-low 72% of offensive snaps and carried the ball just six times for 30 yardsm tying the fewest carries in any full game of his seven-year career. In the second half, he had only one rushing attempt for zero yards.

Head coach Nick Sirianni declined to give a medical update during his Oct. 6 press conference, saying, “I haven’t met with the medical staff yet. Obviously a busy day going into a Thursday night game… we’ll have more updates for you. I just love how Landon always battles, but we always are going to do what’s best for the player. Their health is more important than any game always.”

Saquon Barkley’s slow start adds pressure as Eagles prepare for a short week
After a career-best 2,005-yard season in 2024, Barkley’s production has dipped early in 2025, just 267 yards on 83 carries, averaging 3.2 yards per attempt. Still, he showed flashes of brilliance with a 47-yard touchdown catch against Denver.

Postgame, Barkley remained composed amid questions about his limited touches. “I think every game is going to present different challenges,” he said. “I’m not in the business of ‘What are we doing enough?’ I’m in the business of winning football games.”

The Eagles will conduct walkthroughs on Oct. 7 and 8, with Barkley’s participation closely watched. All signs point toward him suiting up but his workload may be another story.
